The Caritas Ukraine Crisis Response Case Study documents the notable progress Caritas Ukraine made in strengthening its organizational capacity as part of their emergency response scale-up since 2014 when instability spread to Eastern Ukraine as armed separatists took control of the Donbas region leading to displacement of more than 1.7 million people and the evacuation of an estimated 1.1 million to neighboring countries. The structure of this document was designed to showcase key factors that supported Caritas Ukraine’s growth during the crisis response and how the Caritas network can and is supporting the ‘localization’ of emergency responses through sister agencies in the affected countries, which in this case is Ukraine.
